How to Watch The Walking Dead Extended Season 10 and Everything You Need to Know for the New Episodes

The Walking Dead returns for its extended Season 10 episodes on Sunday, February 28 at 9/8c on AMC, and will be available early on February 21 on AMC+. The season picks up with six new stories, focusing on Daryl, Maggie, Carol, Negan, and more. Months after the shocking conclusion of Episode 16, you might be a little rusty on where things stand for the survivors, where things are headed, or how best to enjoy the new season. With that in mind, here's a brief refresher on the lay of the TWD land, what to expect going forward, and how you can watch or catch up on the latest TWD episodes going forward:

What's happened so far in Season 10?

Season 10 saw the survivors pushed to the brink by the Whisperers. They destroyed Hilltop and overran Alexandria in a series of escalations that claimed the lives of a number of survivors, and further demoralized them after the loss of the Kingdom. During the course of these conflagrations, Carol, who was still suffering from the loss of Henry and the dissolution of her relationship with Ezekiel, saw her mental state deteriorate even further.

Obsessed with vengeance against Alpha, she pursued her foe with single-minded desperation. This led to a series of increasingly reckless decisions, culminating when she, Daryl, Aaron, Magna, Connie, Kelly, and Jerry searched a labyrinth of caves for Alpha's hordes. Underground and desperate to hit back at Alpha at all costs, Carol detonated a crate of found dynamite, not only failing to kill the horde but trapping Connie and Magna inside the cave. While Magna eventually makes it out, Connie is presumed dead. This is the last straw for Daryl, who has long been distressed by Carol's increasingly poor judgement.

Meanwhile, Carol has hatched another solo plan, allowing Negan to escape from his Alexandria jail cell and join the Whisperers on her orders. He does just that, ingratiating himself with Alpha and entering into a sexual relationship with her. He gains her trust, and when the Whisperers attack and burn Hilltop -- the former home of Maggie of Rhee -- to the ground, Negan fights on the Whisperer's side. Later, he lures Alpha to a cabin where she believes Lydia is being held. There, Alpha plans to murder her own daughter. But Lydia isn't here. Instead, Negan kisses Alpha and kills her. He delivers her head to Carol as a trophy, which was the plan all along. Carol impales Alpha's head on the same pike that once held her son's.

After learning about Alpha's death, her lieutenant Beta loses his mind. He carries her head around for a spell, and eventually skins it and attaches it to his own Whisperer mask. Then he sets the entire horde loose. They pursue the survivors everywhere, finally surrounding them in an abandoned hospital. The group hatches a last-gasp plan to slip through the horde, and then guide it away with music. The plan works, but the Whisperers infiltrate the rest of the group's hiding place. As the group remaining in the hospital is about to be slaughtered, Maggie and a masked accomplice arrive and fight off the Whisperers.

In the battle with the horde, the Whisperers destroy the speaker system used to lure the walkers away. Lydia and Carol, repentant for her actions, take the risk of leading the horde over the cliff. Carol wants to die in the act, but Lydia won't let her, and they're able to destroy the horde. As for Beta, he first battles Negan, now on the survivor's side, and then Daryl, and is finally consumed by his own horde.

Elsewhere, Michonne, was on a mission looking for weapons, and was abducted by Virgil. After freeing herself, she discovers proof that Rick is alive and decides she has to leave to go find him, leaving Judith and R.J. in the care of Daryl, who has become a father figure to Judith in particular.

Meanwhile, Eugene, Yumiko, and Ezekiel have left the group to rendez-vous with Stephanie, a woman Eugene has been flirting with over the radio. While out in the open, they meet Princess, a scattered, if seemingly harmless survivor who has been on her own for some time. After a tense getting-to-know-each-other period, they join forces. When they find the place where they're supposed to meet with Stephanie, they're surrounded by highly-armed and technologically advanced soldiers. Could this be the Commonwealth?

Last but not least, Connie is alive! She was found by Virgil, hurt but breathing.
