Gripping British Crime Dramas To Watch After Happy Valley

British crime series Happy Valley has just completed its third and final season on AMC+, Acorn TV, and BBC America. But, don't worry if you're missing the formidable Sergeant Catherine Cawood, because we've put together a list of seven other equally gripping British crime series that you can stream right now on AMC+ and Acorn TV. Some are more psychological, others pretty violent, but all will surely keep you on the edge of your seat.

Gangs of London
Co-created by Gareth Evans, director of cult action film The Raid, this crime drama series isn't for the faint of heart. Following the ongoing struggles between rival gangs and criminal syndicates in present-day London, it throws us into a bloody, gritty, and morally murky world where a genuine good guy is hard to find. Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders), Lucian Msamati (His Dark Materials), and Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) lead a seriously talented ensemble cast. A third season is on its way, but you can stream Seasons 1 and 2 now on AMC+.

Manhunt
Martin Clunes, whom you may know from British medical series Doc Martin, stars in this true crime drama that became a big hit in the U.K. Season 1 follows his character, Met Police officer DCI Colin Sutton, as he investigates the murder of a French student in an affluent London neighborhood. Then Season 2 tracks Sutton's quest to track down a serial rapist who's operated in the U.K. capital for at least 17 years. Both stories are super-bingeable and available to stream on Acorn TV.

Des
Former Doctor Who star David Tennant is absolutely chilling in this three-part true-crime miniseries. He won an International Emmy for his performance as Dennis Nilsen, a Scottish serial killer who murdered at least 12 young men between 1978 and 1983 while working in the social sector in London. Line of Duty's Daniel Mays co-stars as DCI Peter Jay, the officer who had the difficult task of getting Nilsen to name his victims. You can binge Des now on AMC+.

Litvinenko
Tennant also stars in this poignant four-parter based on a heartbreaking true story. He plays Alexander Litvinenko, a former KGB officer who died from Polonium-210 poisoning in 2006. Before his passing, Litvinenko claimed to have been killed on the orders of Vladimir Putin, triggering an incredibly delicate U.K. police investigation. Neil Maskell (Peaky Blinders) and Mark Bonnar (Shetland) co-star as the Metropolitan Police officers tasked with piecing together what happened. You can stream it now on AMC+.

Line of Duty
Much like Happy Valley, this crime drama has become something of a national obsession in the U.K., where it premiered back in 2012. Each season follows the officers of a police anti-corruption unit as they investigate suspected "bent coppers" — namely, detectives who may have taken bribes or abused their power in some way. High-profile guest stars include Fear the Walking Dead's Lennie James and Orphan Black: Echoes' Keeley Hawes, so the acting is always top-notch. You can stream the first five seasons on Acorn TV

Liar
Downton Abbey
alum Joanne Froggatt stars in this super-twisty series as Laura Nielson, a teacher who accuses the seemingly respectable man she goes on a date with (Ioan Gruffudd) of sexual assault — something he vehemently denies. What follows is a completely gripping exploration of both characters' past and present lives, leading you to question whose version of events you really believe. It's very much a hybrid of crime drama and psychological thriller, and you can watch both seasons now on AMC+.

The Fall
Set and shot in Northern Ireland, this crime drama is a classic cat and mouse story. Gillian Anderson gives a riveting, ice-cool performance as DSU Stella Gibson, a top London officer dispatched to Belfast to catch an elusive serial killer who's targeting young women. Jamie Dornan co-stars as Peter Spector, a local man who seems far too charming to commit such heinous crimes, but is very much the murderer. Find out whether she gets her man by streaming all three seasons on AMC+.
You can also stream all three seasons of Happy Valley on AMC+ and Acorn TV. The award-winning series follows Yorkshire police officer Sergeant Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) as she tries to raise her grandson Ryan (Rhys Connah) in the shadow of his sadistic father, the murderer and rapist Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton). Find out where to watch Happy Valley cast members elsewhere on AMC+.
