This week, Variety interviews Peter Gould, while Giancarlo Esposito teases Season 5 to the Los Angeles Times. Plus, Variety speaks with Esposito about being a supporting actor on the show. Read on for more:

• Peter Gould reveals to Variety, "Right now we’re towards the end of shooting Season 5, and we have an episode which is pretty much what I pictured the show to be before we started, and it took us more than 40 some-odd episodes to get there."

• Calling Season 5 "very surprising," Giancarlo Esposito talks to the Los Angeles Times about the writers bringing back "characters that you haven't seen in a long time. So it's very possible to see some characters that you know and [are] maybe afraid of and maybe love..."

• Variety cites Giancarlo Esposito as a supporting actor Emmy nominee who shines, with Esposito saying, "Part of my conversation with Vince Gilligan coming into Better Call Saul was that we had an opportunity to look into Gus’ background or see where he came from. But I can’t forget that the show is Better Call Saul, and it’s about Saul."

• Spotlighting this year's Emmy nominees, Backstage calls Better Call Saul "a phenomenon in its own right—a triumph of writing, directing, and especially acting."

• Discussing Better Call Saul's many Emmy nods over the years, Peter Gould tells Variety that "the fact that people liked it enough to vote for it, to nominate it, and then to come back every season is extraordinary, but I think it’s really a tribute to all of the people that we work with."

• Backstage interviews the show's director of photography, Marshall Adams, who says that "as long as we try to stay away from filming anything too detrimental, too ghoulish—I’ve never seen any of the actors balk at any of the angles or ask if there’s something else we could do. They’ve been really supportive."
