Celebrate Your Birthday Like Kevin from KEVIN CAN F**K HIMSELF

Birthdays can hold a lot of importance. After all, it's the one day a year when it can be all about you. It's natural then, that Kevin is a birthday enthusiast. Every day is about Kevin as it is, so you can only imagine how he handles birthdays.

To celebrate your birthday like Kevin, you have to be an expert in multitasking. The man never throws just one party, there’s always a “fake” celebration and a real one. Just think back to Allison and Kevin’s anniversary party in the series premiere. A real party took place in the kitchen and backyard, while a fake one took place in the living room. And it's all to keep unwanted guests (like Allison) out of the fun.

A Kevin-style birthday party is no different. So if you're looking to go all out for yourself this year, learn a few things about celebrating birthdays from the most self-centered person there is.

The Location

The true party has to take place in a kid-friendly setting (perhaps a symbol of Kevin’s own resistance to growing up). The party location this year: “Tricky Ricky’s Fun House.” How could Kevin’s birthday be complete without every type of fried food? Or without massive foam cowboy hats only attainable by the arduous playing of arcade games?

A Great Gift

The second component of a Kevin-style celebration, is obtaining the best gift. Neil and Pete are mostly worthless when it comes to gifts, which leaves Allison as Kevin’s only hope (aka target). The key is to give hints as to exactly what you want. Kevin has been known for writing his directly on the bathroom mirror for so Allison won't miss it. You also can't be afraid to say if you don't like the gift you were given, like when Kevin makes it clear to Allison that he'll be exchanging the brown leather chair she got him for a black one instead. As long as the birthday boy is happy, right?!

Party-Hopping

To really nail a Kevin-inspired birthday, you have to jump from one party to the other using “great” excuses for traveling back and forth. Kevin’s excuse: “I think I left something in the car.” Let’s be honest, the only person Kevin is fooling is himself (and maybe Neil). Allison even brings a book to the restaurant to keep herself entertained through his “disappearances!” She knows about Kevin’s birthday schemes before they even begin. But that doesn't change a thing for Kevin, who's having the time of his life running back and forth between his steak dinner with Allison and his night of arcade games with Neil and Pete.

Get Lost In the Fun

There’s one final piece to celebrating your birthday like Kevin: get completely distracted by stuff at each party. You might even start to compete with your guests. At the Grand Victorian House, Kevin gets sidetracked from his multitasking mission when he encounters an arch-nemesis: Sean Avery. Kevin and Sean end up in an eat-off of the restaurant's notoriously impossible meal, “The Mighty Moo.” If your arch-nemesis wants to competitively eat to near-death, you eat to the near-death, and you win. So what if you forget about your friends waiting for you at your other party?

I guess we should consider whether celebrating your birthday like Kevin is even a good thing... Sure it sounds great to celebrate multiple birthdays at once and get the best gifts. But having such elaborate plans sounds like a lot of work for little reward. Planning one party is hard enough, but having two scheduled at the same time?! If any of us actually tried to celebrate like Kevin, we’d be exhausted and in all likelihood stressed out.

To say Kevin succeeded in his party schemes would be a stretch. Kevin eats till he’s near sick, has to pay for arcade tickets to make his buddies think he’s been with them the whole time, and spends the night thinking about his “next move.” And more importantly, Kevin doesn’t fool any of his guests. Neil and Allison both know Kevin is neglecting them. Allison brought her book in preparation for his absence, and Neil, who certainly is no detective, starts to question Kevin’s disappearances and odd mannerisms.

At the end of the day, the answer to how to celebrate your birthday like Kevin is: please don’t! Kevin might have been smiling at the end of the night, but we're pretty sure he has a wife plotting his murder. Speaking of, catch a sneak peek of the upcoming episode before it airs this Sunday 9/8c:
