Gangs of New York, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas…Which Scorsese Smash Is Your Fave?” width=”560″/>

Gangsters (Goodfellas), dirty cops (The Departed), rapists (Cape Fear), and guys so terrible they’re nicknamed Bill the Butcher (Gangs of New York) — nobody makes better use of bad guys than Martin Scorsese. That’s because the director has a gift for bestowing horrible people with humanity. Case in point: the aforementioned Bill the Butcher. He’s a racist and a violent warmonger ruling over his fiefdom in Civil War-era New York City. But can you help shedding a tear at his downfall? Of course not. Or Travis Bickle, in Taxi Driver. Loony assassin? Absolutely. But are you rooting for him? Most certainly. Scorsese’s also tried his hand at lighter fare, including comedy and concert documentaries, but dark flicks remain his bread and butter. Which of his classic pics is your fave?
