The Hurt Locker Trumps Avatar at the PGA Awards; Mad Men Wins Again” width=”560″/>
The Hurt Locker triumphed over Avatar at the Producers Guild of America Awards tonight, picking up the top prize in the Best Theatrical Motion Picture category. This is somewhat of an upset for the lucrative Avatar, which was thought to be the front runner in a race that honors the industry’s business folks. The PGA Awards are a fair indicator of Best Picture winners at the Oscars — in the past twenty years, the top PGA victor went on to nab an Oscar Best Picture on thirteen occasions — so this is a big win for The Hurt Locker, which went home empty-handed at the SAG and Golden Globe Awards.
Other kudos went to Up in the animation category and The Cove for best documentary. On the television side, Mad Men picked up its second PGA for Best TV Drama series, while 30 Rock rocked the TV Comedy category.
