First there was Michael Myers. Then came Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger. Then Leprechaun. You read that right. The Irish movie monster deserves to be in the company of those greats that came before him but for some reason (his diminutive stature?) he’s often overlooked. First seen in 1993’s Leprechaun, the tiny terror inspired five sequels, has more personality than all the other killers combined and could probably kick their butts. Thanks to a new comic, maybe someday he will.
Bluewater and Lionsgate are developing Leprechaun, a comic about the gold-obsessed sorcerer. In it, Lubden (the last of the Leprechauns!) has to track down his gold by traveling all over the globe. “Battling greed, the genocidal Cluracan and new mystical adversaries, Lubdan must save all life to save himself,” said Darren Davis of Bluewater Productions.
“Leprechaun is an immensely popular horror franchise and I’m excited about expanding the mythos,” said writer Zach Hunchar. Artist Kris Carter will draw Leprechaun and writer Michael Kingston will be writing the second story arc. So far the plot doesn’t involve other Horror movie icons but who knows what crossovers could come down the road. Leprechaun vs. Freddie? At least fans of the franchise get to see the sometimes ridiculous, always dangerous character get the attention and respect he deserves.Read More
