Horror Power Ranking List – August 18, 2008
This week’s rankings are all about misunderstood movies and remakes. Leading the misunderstood is Midnight Meat Train, which probably won’t find an audience until it’s on video. With remakes, we have some rumors to discuss, including Friday the 13th, which just might be one of the biggest movies of next year. Who will die on the vine, and who will slash its way to the top? For that, we’ve got to turn to the horror rankings:

Mirrors Our reviewer loved it (well, the first third at least), and the audiences who have taken a chance on Alexandre Aja’s horror flick have too. Trust me when I say: It’s the scariest film about mirrors since Mulan. |
2 | 1 | ![]() |
Midnight Meat Train If it weren’t for Mirrors opening, Meat Train would still be in the number one spot. But our viewers still can’t find a screening, and the fans are still pissed at Lionsgate. |

Welcome to Hoxford First mentioned months ago, Ben Templesmith’s series has finally arrived… And it’s as horrific as you’d want from the 30 Days of Night artist. Blood, guts, and guards eating the prisoners. Can’t wait for issue #2. |
4 | 5 | ![]() |
Friday the 13th The film doesn’t arrive until next year, but it’s already getting the preview treatment of a major studio release. Let’s hope that the dollars spent on this remake don’t lead to another dumping as with MMT or Mirrors. |

Saw V What’s the best thing about the Saw franchise? Is it the creative kills and traps? Maybe it’s Tobin Bell as Jigsaw? Or perhaps it’s knowing that if it’s Halloween, it must be Saw? Nope. It’s the blood drive. |
6 | 6 | ![]() |
Twilight With Harry Potter 6 moving from Thanksgiving to next summer, we’re going to get Twilight one month earlier! If it’s Thanksgiving, it must be super pale teen vampires playing baseball, right? Thanks to Eunice for the pic. |

Candyman While Clive Barker’s Meat Train seems stalled at the station, the remake train chug-a-lugs on, this time with Clive Barker’s Candyman. Tell you what… Go back to the original story for the remake, and we have a deal. |
8 | – | ![]() |
Nightmare on Elm Street Next up on the remake front is the “news” that Billy Bob Thornton will be playing Freddy Krueger. How many times do we have to say this: They don’t even have a script yet. |
9 | – | ![]() |
Rocky Horror Picture Show Last stop on the remake train is a possible remake of Rocky Horror from MTV films, which finally got financing last week. Let me say this: I’ve seen enough of that movie to last a lifetime. |
10 | 8 | ![]() |
Hellboy II: The Golden Army In a summer filled to the brim with superheroes, monsters, and more, Hellboy 2 managed to be original, funny, scary — and kick serious amounts of butt. Before we say goodbye to it on the Horror Ranking, I wanted to give it one last hurrah. |
