In his heyday, he was a matinee idol but Tyrone Power wasn’t just a pretty face. He descended from acting royalty: His namesake father was a lauded stage actor while Sir Laurence Olivier was also a relative — albeit a distant one. Yet bloodlines be damned, Power was a huge success from early on because of his dark, handsome looks.
No surprise then that his offscreen life was a wild affair. Married to his first of three wives Anabella, he had an affair with Judy Garland (which resulted in an abortion) then later another tryst with Lana Turner, and purportedly one with Mr. Blackwell, the self-appointed fashion maven, too. Hardly a paragon of fidelity, he was once quoted as saying, “I’m sick of all these knights in shining armor parts.“
Pony Soldier might not fulfill Power’s need for a change but it does show the actor in signature form: here, as a Canadian Mountie. Catch the movie this morning Saturday, April 5 at 9:30AM | 8:30C or click here for the movie’s full schedule on AMC .Read More
