Sure, Basement Jack takes some of its inspiration from Halloween: Basement Jack Riley killed 11 people at the age of 17, then was committed, then was set free. Still, the trailer for the slasher film is full of chills and thrills. Pause when you see the gruesome deeds of Basement Jack, especially halfway through when the man in the plaid shirt gets his jaw chopped away. There’s no screaming, no crying, just the grim results of Jack’s work, the haphazard hacking with a large, sharp knife. The only sounds: A beating heart that pounds faster, faster. Even the movie’s Web site is fat with horror with its lightning, thunder, and goose bump-inducing medical records of Basement Jack.
