John Carpenter’s Latest: L.A. Gothic

John Carpenter may be stinging from being screwed out of Halloween royalties. But that isn’t stopping him from directing a new movie. A check of Production Charts today shows that he’ll be shooting a horror movie called L.A. Gothic starting in March. The plot? It sounds like Tales From the Crypt : “Five interwoven stories of high-octane horror centering on a vengeful
ex-priest’s efforts to protect his teenage daughter from the
supernatural evils of L.A.’s dark side.”

Two of-the-moment scribes, Jim Agnew and Sean Keller (also wrote the new Dario Argento movie, Giallo) have written the screenplay. Can Carpenter, who hasn’t helmed a feature-length flick since Ghosts of Mars (2001), return to glory with this triptych of terror. Or will these interwoven tales leave us longing for his gory days? Stay tuned.
