The WGA Strike has really put the future of Battlestar Galactica in jeopardy. First came the dire hints from the SciFi Channel that the fourth season might be split between 2008 and 2009. Talk about a crass move to maximize ratings over two years with only one episode order. But eventually, even that became a best case scenario as the strike halted production, which put the fourth season’s rumored debut entirely in 2009. And even that disheartening bit of news suddenly looks gilded: It’s now uncertain if BSG will even be picked up for the remainder of the fourth season at all.
Will we ever know if the Galactica reaches Earth? It’s still to early to say. But there’s some small good news for Galactica’s fanbase of spiritual Viper jockeys: The SciFi Channel has finally committed to airing the first half of BSG’s fourth season starting on April 4, 2008. The run will only be ten episodes, but at this point, I’m used to the WGA Strike giving us a year of half-seasons.
