Tourist Trap is more than just a late 70s Texas Chainsaw Massacre rip-off. It also steals liberally from House of Wax , Carrie , and an episode of Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Today the film is fondly remembered as a super-creepy piece of cheap horror cinema. (Just look at that poster for cryin’ out loud!)
But it was recently brought to my attention that if you view the Netflix listing for Tourist Trap (1979) and click the PLAY PREVIEW button, it will show the coming-attraction for a 1998 Disney comedy starring Daniel Stern and Julie Hagerty. Seriously.
It is my sincerest hope that Netflix’s confusion is a two-way street, and that the next time some fuddy-duddy tries to rent the made-for-TV Disney movie they get the Chuck Connors slasher flick instead.
