A new clip from Aliens vs. Predator: Requieum has hit the net and, oh my droogies, it is filled with the good old ultra-violence. My impressions, after the jump.
It’s hard to tell about things like characterization from a small promotional clip, but I’m a bit distressed at all of the pretty college students caught in the middle of the Predator / Xenomorph South African melee. Alien Versus Predator didn’t really have very memorable protagonists either, pretty much just serving as bags full of guts for various denominations of bloodthirsty aliens to rip open… but that was the case in both the Aliens series and the Predator series as well, and they still managed to come up with a unique cast of likable, rootable human characters. We’ll see.
The gore and action doesn’t look like it’ll disappoint, though. I’m relieved to see that the Predator in this film doesn’t seem to like humans very much… especially when the humans, at first blush, look so obnoxious and disposable. The first AvP made the mistake of making the Predators a smidge too cuddly, which doesn’t suit a species with a culture based around the concept of killing people by ripping out their spines.
I enjoyed the first AvP as popcorn fodder, and the new one looks like more of the same… albeit with the gore knob twirled all the way up to 11. I’m looking forward to it. What do you think?Read More
