Remember the old school Japanese cartoon show, Speed Racer? I’d watch it on Saturday mornings, always hating the loops in the background, always loving the hero, Speed. Now, the Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix, V for Vendetta) are setting their sites on a live action Speed Racer. Hopefully, they’ve got a dynamite script for a film that’s been in development since the 1990s and has seen various writers, directors and actors. For instance, Johnny Depp was set as the lead back in ’95.
The Wachowskis’ cast looks good with Emile Hirsch as Speed, Christina Ricci as galpal Trixie and Susan Sarandon as Speed’s mom. Richard Roundtree (Shaft) even makes an appearance.
