Merv Griffin joins Frank Zappa and Telly Savalas


For the next few days media outlets will be running obituaries, anecdotes and reflective Pat Sajak quotes about Merv Griffith.

(I trust you’ve already read about his passing.)

For sci-fi fans, Merv gave us more than just “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.”

In 1983 he had the best bit in the Steve Martin comedy, “The Man with Two Brains”

Nowadays it’s easy to imagine someone upstaging Steve Martin.  But back in 1983 he was still funny, hell he was a force to be reckoned with. But Merv single-handedly steals the show in less than a minute.

You can have your Marlon Brando in “Superman” or your William Hurt in “A History of Violence” — Merv shows us what a brilliantly-cast celebrity guest-spot is all about.
