At their E3 Press Event, Microsoft and Bungie Studios released a short-live action film taking place in the Halo universe. And while it’s an advertisement for their upcoming Halo 3 video game, there’s a lot of interesting little things going on underneath the surface that is making a lot of people think that what has been released as an ad is actually prototype test footage for the upcoming Neill Blomkamp directed and Peter Jackson produced Halo movie.
The logic behind this conspiracy theory is in the aesthetic: it simply looks like Neill Blomkamp’s work. The grimy realism and camera shots incorporating beautiful CGI has all the hallmarks of Blomkamp’s Tetra Vaal.
While the Halo movie has had a tumultuous history, things are looking good for it, and it’s plausible that Microsoft green-lit this short not just to drum up interested in Halo 3, but also in a live-action film. In fact, Microsoft has promised that a series of these shorts will be released throughout the summer.
I don’t know if the rumors are true, but I hope they are: if this is what Blomkamp can do with the Halo universe with a microscopic budget, I want him to have an entire screen as a canvas.Read More
