The Walking Dead Comic-Con@Home Panel — Lauren Cohan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and More on Maggie’s Return in the Season 10 Finale

Maggie and Lauren Cohan’s return to The Walking Dead now officially has a date. At The Walking Dead Comic-Con@Home panel, the cast and creators of The Walking Dead, including Cohan herself, got together with host Chris Hardwick to talk and provide critical information to fans about Maggie’s return. Chief among that information: the Season 10 Finale will air on Sunday, October 4 at 9/8c, and six bonus episodes will air in early 2021.

In addition to showing the extended opening scene from the episode, which includes a reveal that Ross Marquand described as “a huge introduction to a character we saw in Season 3 with Michonne,” Cohan and company spoke in great detail about how much her return means to them, and what it means for the future of the show.

“I feel like I never really left,” said Cohan, “I spent a whole month [on set] basically catching up with everyone so when it came time to actually re-inhabit Maggie and act, I was like ‘cool i’m not overwhelmed with all this crazy excitement of seeing everyone.'”

She noted that her time away and her time spent catching up on the set, gave her “such an overwhelming respect for what every single person in every department essentially inhabits to make each of our characters [and] the entire world authentic and alive.”

Cohan isn’t the only one thrilled Maggie is back. Executive Producer and Season 10 finale director Greg Nicotero said on the panel, “I went to set early [Lauren’s first] day and went into her trailer and we just started giggling and laughing… we got really close in Season 2 and we’ve been playing guitar online together the last couple months.”

Cohan was crystal clear that even though Maggie has been on the periphery of the story all along, and in touch with Carol, Maggie is now here to stay. Nicotero reiterated that point to Hardwick “We’ve had a lot of great actors come back for a little cameo thing,” he said. “We’ve had [Jon] Bernthal [Shane], we’ve had the great amazing Scott Wilson [Hershel]… we’ve had [Michael] Rooker, we’ve had a lot of great actors that come back for a day or two. But I think knowing that Lauren was coming back… when you’re part of The Walking Dead you never really leave… you’ve all been in the trenches together.”

Hardwick also asked Cohan about her biggest scene, and the answer was no surprise: the circle where Negan killed Glenn. “Not a very fun scene, but very important,” she said.

With that in mind and with Negan walking free among the group in Season 10, will Maggie will try to kill him? “Look, Negan killed Maggie’s husband and burnt down her house, so… it’s not gonna be an easy road, I think, for either of them,” said Showrunner Angela Kang.

Highlight: Will Maggie Kill Negan?

Kang isn’t the only one preparing for potential fireworks when Maggie and Negan meet. According to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, “Negan has gone through such a journey the last couple years. This redemption arc has been amazing and yet we know that in there is Negan.”

But it’s not all potentially violent meetings to look forward to when Cohan makes her return. Cohan also told the panel that she can’t wait to meet the new, older little Hershel, her TV son, especially after spending time with Cailey Fleming (Judith). “I want to meet little Hershel! It was nice to meet Cailey, and then spending time with her and watching her work and watching this season through young people’s eyes.”
