Dan Carey (Executive Producer)
Dan Carey is a producer and founder of the New York-based production company Touchy Feely Films, along with partners Paul Giamatti and Elizabeth Giamatti.
Most recently, Touchy Feely developed and produced the series Outsiders for WGN America, written by Paul Mattei and Peter Tolan and starring David Morse. Other Touchy Feely television projects in development include Watergate with writer John Orloff (Band of Brothers) based on the book Watergate: A Novel by Thomas Mallon; Barren Cove with writer Emmy Grinwis (Tyrant, Eye Candy) based on the science fiction novel by Ariel S. Winter; and a series about the life of radical abolitionist John Brown based on Tony Horwitz’s book Midnight Rising.
Carey’s film productions with Touchy Feely include All Is Bright, which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2013 and stars Paul Giamatti, Paul Rudd, and Sally Hawkins; John Dies at the End, a genre-bending thriller that debuted at Sundance in 2012 and was released by Magnolia Pictures; writer-director Sophie Barthes’ debut feature Cold Souls, which premiered at Sundance in 2009 and was nominated for three Independent Spirit Awards; and Paul Schneider’s writing/directing debut Pretty Bird, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2008 in the Dramatic Competition and was released by Paramount Pictures.
Carey’s other film credits include Matthew Porterfield’s I Used to be Darker, which debuted at both the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals in 2013; Padre Nuesto, which won the Dramatic Competition prize at Sundance in 2007; and Live Free or Die, which won top prizes in 2006 at SXSW and the Seattle Film Festival.
