NY Times Talks Dietland, Lauds Joy Nash; CarterMatt Previews Episode 7

This week, The New York Times discusses Dietland and praises Joy Nash, while CarterMatt previews the next episode. Plus, The San Diego Union-Tribune hails Kitty and Plum as #MeToo heroes. Read on for more:

The New York Times, declaring that Dietland is “about perception — about the various ways Plum sees herself and is seen by the outside world,” also praises Joy Nash’s “natural and complex performance.”

CarterMatt previews the next episode, “Monster High,” noting that “it certainly feels as though we are seeing Plum move into a different place. After her time in Calliope House, she seems to have uncovered a new-found determination and resolve.”

The San Diego Union-Tribune salutes the heroines of this summer’s #MeToo TV, including Kitty and Plum who “might just end up hitting the patriarchy where it hurts. Together.”

The Huffington Post says of Dietland, “Perhaps there’s a utility in the existence of a prestige cable show in which women’s pain and anger are both shown and told. Maybe, after millennia of repressed anger, we deserve to have it made explicit.”

• Joy Nash tells amNewYork that Dietland wants people “to feel empowered personally, but we also want the world to change. I don’t know exactly how that’s supposed to happen, but it needs to.”

Brit + Co speaks with Dietland‘s costume designer, Katie Riley, who “debunks the biggest myths about plus-size fashion and how women of all shapes and sizes should feel empowered to dress how they want.”
