The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced this morning the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy® Award nominations, recognizing AMC with 34 nominations, the most for any basic cable network for the fifth year in a row, breaking the previous 29 nomination record for the network from 2011. AMC holds record with A&E as the most nominated basic cable networks of all time with 164 nominations. Mad Men, which reigns as the only television series in cable history to win the Emmy® for Outstanding Drama Series four years in row (2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011), continues to be the most Emmy® nominated drama series on television. This year the series garnered 17 nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actor for Jon Hamm, Outstanding Actress for Elisabeth Moss, Outstanding Supporting Actor for Jared Harris, Outstanding Supporting Actress for Christina Hendricks, Outstanding Directing for Phil Abraham and three Outstanding Writing noms, making it the most nominated basic cable drama series ever.

AMC’s Breaking Bad, which garnered a third consecutive Emmy for Bryan Cranston as Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series and an Emmy for Aaron Paul as Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2010, received 13 nominations, including repeat noms for Cranston and Paul; first-time nominations for Giancarlo Esposito and Anna Gunn for Outstanding Supporting Actor and Outstanding Supporting Actress, respectively; Outstanding Guest Actor for Mark Margolis and Outstanding Directing for Vince Gilligan. The Walking Dead received 3 nominations, including Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Miniseries, Movie Or A Special. Hell on Wheels received 1 nomination making every single scripted drama series in AMC’s history to be recognized by the Academy.

The tallies for nominations by show are:

Mad Men = 17 nominations

Breaking Bad = 13 nominations

The Walking Dead = 3 nominations

Hell on Wheels = 1 nomination

The following is a statement from AMC President and General Manager Charlie Collier:

“On the morning of the Emmy nominations, it is exciting to be together with the team to hear AMC programming singled out among the best in television. It’s an honor and a true testament to the extraordinary work that is done each day in support of the creative and quality story-telling that has come to define our network. No matter the task; winning the Jaguar account, cornering Heisenberg, building the trans-continental railroad, or eluding zombies, it has been an exciting journey again this year on the road to being named the network with the most Emmy nominations on basic cable,” said Collier. “We thank the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for recognizing AMC and its programs and congratulate our talented production teams, spectacular casts and exceptional production partners for consistently defying expectations.”
