Who’s King of the Prison Yard? Eastwood, Denzel, or Some Other Jailbird?

Remember how Andy (Tim Robbins) blasts Mozart through the entire prison in The Shawshank Redemption? The small rebellion gets him two weeks in the cooler but makes the prisoners feel free for a few brief minutes. Yeah, prison’s rough, and when you’re an inmate you have to rebel, whether by blasting classical music, starting a brawl in the yard, or using a spoon to dig through a wall to your escape. In honor of Shawshank, we bring you eight classic jailbird rebels, each with his own flavor of tough-guy attitude. Some are trying to escape (Clint Eastwood in Escape From Alcatraz and Steve McQueen in The Great Escape), and others are just trying to survive (Edward Norton in American History X). Is a ripped Denzel Washington tough enough to survive a brawl with Jean-Claude Van Damme? Which crafty escapee has the guts to survive in the clink?
