The Walking Dead‘s Director, Frank Darabont, Always Wanted to Do Zombies – He Just Needed a Story

The Walking Dead‘s executive producer, director, and writer, Frank Darabont (The Mist), had been searching for a way to make a zombie show for a long while before he found Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel. So he says in an interview that’s part of Killer Conversations, a series of video Q&As with horror’s best and brightest talents. Darabont tells Greg Nicotero, The Walking Dead‘s special-effects man and makeup designer, that his eureka moment came shortly after he found Kirkman’s comic on the shelf. Nicotero, who’d been down the zombie road before with George A. Romero himself, reveals that he thinks Darabont’s take on the zombie genre is truly unique. Want to hear more with Darabont and Nicotero or fellow horror icons Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead), and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland)?

The Walking Dead premieres on Halloween night, Sun., Oct. 31, at 10PM | 9C.
