The Newsdesk 01.27.10 – Harry Potter Coming in 3D; Hathaway to Annouce Oscar Nominees

• Warner Bros. will release Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final two installments in the Harry Potter franchise, in 3D. Thanks a lot, Avatar. We almost got through one franchise without a 3D entry. It’s Jaws 3-D all over again.

• Guy Ritchie has dropped the Lobo comic book adaptation for Sherlock Holmes 2. Gritty comic book character few have heard of or a sequel to a mega-hit budding franchise? Can’t say Ritchie’s choice is much of a surprise.

• Analysts say that the Sundance/YouTube streaming merger was mostly a failure. Turns people don’t want to watch a moving indie drama on a tiny, constantly buffering screen.

• A contract commitment is forcing the director of Saw VI to go back to the franchise for Saw VII instead of helming Paranormal Activity 2.

Clash of the Titans will also be released in 3D. The suspense over whether or not Titans would be released in 3D is probably more exciting than the actual movie.

• Anne Hathaway will announce the Oscar nominees on February 2.
