The Newsdesk 01.20.09 – Spider-Man Reboot Gets Director; MacGruber Gets a Trailer

• Sony has signed (500) Days of Summer helmer Marc Webb as the director for the Spider-Man reboot. Looks like the chances of Peter Parker spontaneously boogieing down to classic Hall and Oates tunes have greatly increased.

• Screenwriter Ronald Harwood (The Pianist) has signed on to script the Martin Luther King Jr. biopic.

The first Avatar-related death has occured, as a 42-year-old Tawainese man died from a stroke while watching the hit movie.

Tim Burton’s next project could be Maleficent, a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story from the perspective of the evil sorceress. Maybe we’ll finally learn the true story of her pointy headdress. 

• The red-band trailer for MacGruber, based on the Saturday Night Live sketch, has been released. Could we finally get a good Saturday Night Live movie? After Night at the Roxbury, The Ladies Man and pretty much everything post-Wayne’s World, the only way to go is up.
