The Writers Guild of America (WGA) singled out AMC this year as the only basic cable network to receive nominations for its 2010 awards. Both Breaking Bad and Mad Men received nods in the Drama Series and Episodic Drama categories for a total of five nominations.
In the Drama Series category, AMC’s two original series will go up against Showtime’s Dexter, NBC’s Friday Night Lights and ABC’s Lost for the award.
In the Episodic Drama category, Breaking Bad writer John Shiban received a nomination for his Season 2 episode “Phoenix,” while Mad Men nabbed two nominations in the category — one for creator Matthew Weiner’s and writer Brett Johnson’s Season 3 episode “The Grown Ups,” and another for Matthew Weiner’s and writer Robin Veith’s “Guy Walks Into an Advertising Agency.” The AMC dramas in this category will be competing against episodes of Fox’s House and HBO’s Big Love and True Blood for the prize.
The winners will be announced during a ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles and simultaneously at the Hudson Theatre at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City on Sat., Feb. 20, 2010. Click here for a full list of nominations.Read More
