The Newsdesk 11.24.09 – Jackman Gets Real Steel; Dennings Joins Thor Crew

New Moon has scored an estimated $258.5 million at the worldwide box office so far. This falls short of the $260.6 million earned by The Dark Knight on its worldwide opening weekend. Plus, Batman could totally beat up a vampire. Just saying.

• According to Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings has also been cast in Thor. Word is she’ll play an “aloof, jaded beyond her years” twenty-something. • Hugh Jackman will star in the robot boxing movie Real Steel. How is this movie not based on Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots?

• Casting is underway for The Crow remake. You gotta feel sorry for whoever gets this role, what with the movie’s curse and all. Just ask The Crow: Wicked Prayer star Edward Furlong. Where’s he been lately?

• Tommy Lee Jones has dropped out as the director and co-star of The Lincoln Lawyer over creative differences. Did he want to call it “The Lincoln Paralegal?”

• The chairman of Fox denied claims that James Cameron’s Avatar cost $500 million to make and firmly believes it will turn a profit. Aren’t studio execs just adorable around this time of year?
