The Newsdesk 10.06.09 – Chris Rock to Be a Black Friend; Kevin Smith Wants to Hit Somebody

Chris Rock will star in Will You Be My Black Friend?, a comedy being developed by Lionsgate and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions. Our guess for who will play the white guy looking for a black friend: Kevin James.

• Disney has made the first five minutes of The Princess and the Frog available online. So it’ll end just as the first big musical number kicks in? Nice marketing there, Disney. That’s what people love most about your animated movies– the long set-ups before the musical number.

• Kevin Smith’s next movie will be a hockey movie called Hit Somebody, possibly starring Wil Wheaton. Nerds love Smith and Wheaton, but hate physical activity. This is a tough one to call.

• New photos from the period action movie Centurion have been released. Did you like 300? No? Well, that’s OK because…OK, it looks like 300.

• The first photo of Brad Pitt as Percy Fawcett in The Lost City of Z features Mr. Jolie rocking one serious goatee.

• Rich Ross has replaced Bob Iger as the chairman of the Walt Disney Company. Ross is responsible for turning Miley Cyrus and High School Musical into the ubiquitous brands we know today. So now you know who to blame.

• The director of the buzzed about horror film Paranormal Activity is set to direct Area 51, The story follows three teenagers who try to find the infamous alien warehouse. The twist is… it’s filled with ghosts!
