The Newsdesk 08.13.09 – Avatar Tickets Released; Singer Updating Battlestar?

• Heath Ledger’s final movie, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, has been purchased by Sony Pictures.

Free tickets for the 16-minute Avatar Imax trailer will be distributed online on Monday. You need tickets to see a trailer now? Mr. “King of the World” sure has a lot of nerve.

• Jon Heder will star in an adaptation of the scifi novel Buddy Holly Is Alive and Well on Ganymede. Alternate title: The Day the Music Died and Went Into Orbit.

• Kim Basinger is in talks to star opposite Zac Efron in the drama The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud. While we are pro-Kim Basinger comeback, we’re also anti-Zac Efron moving into serious drama. This is a tough one.

• Bryan Singer could be bringing Battlestar Galactica to the big screen for yet another reboot. This time the Cylons will take out anyone who didn’t like Superman Returns.  

• Director Paul W.S. Anderson is developing a prequel to his movie Death Race. The working title is probably something like Terror Assembly Line.

• Sony Pictures won the rights to release footage of Michael Jackson’s final concert rehearsals as a feature film
