The Newsdesk 08.11.09 – Hank Williams Biopic in the Works; Studios Circle Kick-Ass

• Paramount, Lionsgate and Universal are among the studios interested in purchasing Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass. The ultra-violent comic book movie (featuring Nicolas Cage and, uh, “McLovin”) was financed independently by Vaughn.

• A biopic about the life of country music legend Hank Williams is being developed. Now how about a Hank Williams Jr. biopic that investigates which evening his “rowdy friends” will be coming over?

Universal is developing the romantic comedy The Best Thing About Pam Rooney as a vehicle for Jonah Hill. There’s just “something about” that title that makes you want to “forget Sarah Marshall” and confess your “love for Beth Cooper.”

• The creators of Harold and Kumar have signed on to helm the comedy One Night Stan. Drop the last letter — instant title pun!

• A full trailer for Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus has surfaced.

Sideways director Alexander Payne is working on an adaptation of the novel The Descendants, a drama set in Hawaii.
