Ironically, Funny People, premiering this week, will probably end up being one of Adam Sandler’s least hilarious movies even if Sandler is playing a comedian. (His character’s got a terminal illness!) While better known for slapstick schlock like Happy Gilmore (1996) and Billy Madison (1995), Sandler’s no stranger to serious roles. He’s starred in Spanglish (2004), Reign Over Me (2007) and Punch Drunk Love (2002). Do you prefer Sandler as the slapstick goofball or the respectable thespian? Do we really need to ask?
