The Newsdesk 05.15.09 – First Trailer for The Road; Depp Is Sinatra?

• Monica Belluci is joining the cast of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. But who is playing the magic broom already?

Johnny Depp could be playing Frank Sinatra in Martin Scorsese’s biopic for Universal.

The first trailer for The Road has at last been released. Something tells me the studio is desperately trying to sell this as the action movie it isn’t.

Warner Bros. is developing a Primeval movie, off of the ITV series that airs on BBC America and the SciFi Channel. The movie is being pitched as “Jurassic Park meets Lost which just might be insane enough to work.

Terry Gilliam plans to restart The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, his ill-fated movie that was chronicled in the brilliant documentary Lost in La Mancha.

• Mickey Rourke has signed on to a remake of Mona Lisa, the 1986 British gangster flick directed by Neil Jordan. The original had Bob Hoskins as a tough guy who beat on an animated rabbit. Er, scratch that.

release, but the kind that warranted a full-fledged marketing campaign.
