The Newsdesk 03.13.09 – Warner Bros. Wants King’s It; Burton’s Wonderland Revealed

• New Line and Walden Media want to produce a sequel to Brendan Fraser’s Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D. Which is good news for anyone who actually sat through the first one.

• Mickey Rourke continues to rack up roles, signing on for writer/director Mitch Glazer’s Passion Plays.

• Big shakeup at Fox, as Fox Searchlight President Peter Rice will replace Peter Liguori as head of the TV network.

• Warner Bros. will bring Stephen King’s It to the big screen. Considering the book runs over 1,100 pages, expect Warners to spin like four movies out of creepy Pennywise the clown.

• Marvel has delayed the release of Thor and The Avengers. Look for Thor and First Avenger: Captain America to join Spider-Man 4 in the summer of 2011, while The Avengers is set for 2012. Basically your summers are booked for the next three years.

• Financier Carl Icahn has offered to purchase $325 million of Lionsgate Studios’ debt.

• Stone Cold Steve Austin is the latest tough guy to join the cast of Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables. Is there an action star from the last twenty years who isn’t in this movie?

• The first images from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland have been released. No Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter sadly.
