The Newsdesk 03.25.09 – Hanks to Return to Space; Scott’s Robin Hood Cast Announced

• The latest poster for Angels and Demons has been released. Those guys in red look awful suspicious.

• Universal is developing a live-action feature based on the classic action figure Major Matt Mason as a possible vehicle for Tom Hanks. Is there any astronaut he won’t play?

• The full cast of Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood movie has been announced. Vanessa Redgrave, Scott Grimes, and Mark Strong are among the actors who will inhabit Sherwood Forest.

• Zac Efron will reteam with his 17 Again director Burr Steers for an adaptation of the novel The Death and Life of Charlie Cloud. Sadly (or fortunately?), this means Efron is dropping out of the Footloose remake.

• The National Amusements theater chain is having trouble attracting bidders to purchase the company in the current economic climate.

• The subtitles for the DVD release of the cult Swedish horror film Let the Right One In have apparently been altered, removing some of the film’s wit and character.  

•Hayo Miyazaki’s (Spirited Away) next film, Ponyo, will be released here in August.The
American-language cast includes Matt Damon, who voices the titular
goldfish who longs to be human. Don’t worry, Miyazaki can pull it off. 

• Dreamworks Animation had hoped to open Monsters Vs. Aliens in over 4,000 3D theaters, before the economic crunch caused them to scale back.
