With no Slumdog Millionaire in sight, The Wrestler was the big winner at the Independent Spirit Awards, taking home three prizes — for best feature, best male lead (Mickey Rourke) and best cinematography. Rourke is one of several potential winners at tomorrow night’s Oscars that emerged triumphant tonight, along with Melissa Leo (best female lead for Frozen River) and Penelope Cruz (best supporting female for Vicky Cristina Barcelona).Woody Allen, who wasn’t there, also picked up an award for his screenplay of Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston made an appearance as well, presenting the John Cassevetes Award to In Search of a Midnight Kiss.
