SciFi Power Ranking — Indy’s Skull, Soundwave Transforms, and Flash Gordon Returns (May 26, 2008)

Da-da-da-da! Da-da-da! It’s the Indy-tastic Scifi Power Rankings! Indy’s storming the box office, and also the scifi charts, knocking Iron Man down from his perch. But that’s not all. Get ready for questionable remakes galore. Everything from Flash Gordon to Robocop is being rehashed and recycled. Hollywood is going green! (Green being the color of money.)

Find out where your favorites rank below.

SciFi Power Rankings
Rank LW   Movie (or Comic, etc.)
1 indianajonescrystal.jpg Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Indy’s afraid of snakes, but hopefully audiences aren’t afraid of scifi plot elements. Cause the film’s got plenty of ’em and one involves an android.
2 capamerica.jpg First Avenger: Captain America
Marvel wised up and squelched the Matthew McConaughey casting rumors. Now if only they could do something about that cumbersome title…
3 1 iron_man_75.jpg Iron Man
Sure, Indy is stealing Shellhead’s thunder. But with the mixed response to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, that flick’s still the best reviewed summer blockbuster so far. Godspeed, Bruce Banner!
4 dollhouse.jpg Fringe / Dollhouse
Trailers for the new Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams shows have scifi fans buzzing. We have to ask: Why do all the good concepts for science fiction always have to go to TV? We like our intergalactic battles on the big screen!
5 Runaways_75.jpg Runaways
Good news: Lost writer Brian K. Vaughn is adapting his hit teen superhero comic for Marvel Films. Less good news: It’ll be at least 2012 before we see it. Time to perfect your time travel machine.
6 daley_75.jpg 77
Is Freaks and Geeks alum John Daley looking Star Wars period indie or what? This Lucas-Spielberg memoir movie  could make up for the indignities heaped upon us by Fanboys.
7 transformers-75.jpg Transformers 2
Sequel writer Roberto Orci says we’ll be seeing Soundwave in the next film. Hopefully Autobot boombox Blaster will challenge him to a climatic breakdance-off.
8 flash_gordon_75.jpg Flash Gordon
Flash Gordon is coming back to theaters courtesy of I Know What You Did Last Summer maestro Neal Moritz. Weirdly enough, it’s about a group of teens haunted by the rippling biceps of former Flash Sam Jones.
9 highlander_75.jpg Highlander
The writing team behind Iron Man is working on a Highlander remake. Expect it to be at least marginally better than the many, many sequels. Perhaps Christopher Lambert will get a cameo.
10 –  robocop_75.jpg Robocop
MGM wants to remake the greatest scifi satire ever put on film. Did they learn nothing from Robocop 3 ? Even Peter Weller turned down that one.
