The 7 Best Westerns Since Unforgiven

Depp

I love lists and I especially love to parse lists. At the movie Web site, Cinematical, Jeffrey M. Anderson offers up what Seven Best Westerns Since Unforgiven.  I’m down with seeing Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man as number one (although Anderson gets the release date wrong).

But the new Brad Pitt movie at Number 2?  Give me and all Western lovers everywhere a break.  At best, it’s a good move.  But it’s not a great movie.  Same goes for Quick and the Dead. It’s watchable, but nothing to write home about, nothing to place in a best-of list.

What about Tombstone?  What about Lonesome Dove?  I ask you.  What movie would you place on the list?  Do you think Pitt’s new Jesse James movie should be on the list?

Here’s the full list:

1) Dead Man
2) The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
3)
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada

4) Open Range
5)
The Proposition
6)
The Quick and the Dead
7)
3:10 to Yuma
