Last night, during the season premiere for their show Eureka, the Sci-Fi Channel quietly teased Razor, the upcoming Battlestar Galactica kinda-sorta movie featuring Admiral Cain and the Battlestar Pegasus: primarily a flashback film detailing the Battlestar Pegasus’ fight against the Cylons after the destruction of the Twelve Colonies.
There’s not a lot of detail here, but JP over at the excellent SF Signal blog enthusiastically opines:
Just watching that gets me excited about the movie. It reminds of the first, and best, season of BG. Razor looks to get back to what made BG great in the first place: humankind’s desperate fight for its very existence. Hopefully Razor will remove much of the politics and allegory that have entangled the later season, causing them to lose focus, and return to the raw emotions of desperate people doing desperate things to survive.
I couldn’t have said it better. Something was lost when BSG stopped paying attention to the grueling logistics of everyday survival, both materially and psychologically. While I understand it would have been a challenge to do three or four seasons of “Where are we going to get our next month’s water from?” plotlines, the mystical wishy washiness of the later seasons has been a dramatic step-down in my mind.Read More
