Making of The Walking Dead Season 7, Episode 11 — See How Practical and Digital Magic Turned a Walker Into a Pile of Guts

The Sanctuary relies on their walker-lined fence for protection, but in the world of The Walking Dead, guts can prove to be a nuisance.

In a new video on the making of “Hostiles and Calamities,” the cast and crew detail how they created the disgusting walker that disintegrates right before Negan’s eyes in Season 7, Episode 11.

Executive Producer Greg Nicotero explains that the show’s “agenda always is to push the combination of practical and digital.”  Showrunner Scott M. Gimple also knows that “marrying them together can create some insane magic.”

That magical marriage allowed for the special effects team to digitally simulate a pile of guts spilling out of the fence walker, and both an actor and a puppet to stand in and mimic some of that movement in real time.

“From a spectacle standpoint, this is something we wanted to be disgusting,” Gimple admitted.
