Attention Ian McKellen fans! Can’t wait to see the Shakespearean actor in action this November on AMC’s The Prisoner? Those of you living in New York can watch him as Gandalf the Grey at a special screening of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring this weekend at Radio City Music Hall.
The special two-night engagement (Oct. 9 and 10 at 7 PM) will feature over 300 musicians from Switzerland’s 21st Century Orchestra, the internationally acclaimed The Collegiate Chorale, the Grammy-award winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus and renowned soprano Kaitlyn Lusk performing Howard Shore’s Grammy and Oscar-winning score live while the movie plays on Radio City’s 60-foot screen.
If you think you’ve heard McKellen boom “You shall not pass!” before, wait until he echoes the halls of Radio City while conductor Ludwig Wicki deftly guides his orchestra down Gandalf’s fiery fall. In the words of composer Howard Shore, “I was seeing the music with more clarity and hearing the image in an entirely new way. It became a completely new experience.”
