In Episode 8 of Better Call Saul, Jimmy puts the finishing touches on a commercial using a phony war veteran and a Boeing B-29 Superfortress known as FIFI. The plane that co-creator Vince Gilligan featured in the episode belonged to The Commemorative Air Force, which is now offering the chance for fans and history buffs the once-in-a-lifetime chance to fly in FIFI and many other historic planes — and meet some of the people who make Better Call Saul!
This weekend, the CAF’s AirPower History Tour will make its way to the Camarillo Airport in Camarillo, Calif. As a special treat for fans, Gilligan and Saul stars Michael Mando (Nacho) and Patrick Fabian (Howard Hamlin) will be on location signing autographs on Sunday, April 23 from 1-2 p.m.
The CAF — a 501 (c) (3) organization with the largest fleet of World War II military aircraft in the world — honors the men and women who built, maintained and flew these airplanes during World War II by preserving the historic aircraft. The CAF AirPower History Tour will take the organization’s collection of airplanes to as many as 30 stops across the country from now through October. Visitors to the event can view the airplanes up close and even purchase rides in many of them, including FIFI.
“FIFI is living, flying history – a rare and beautiful link to a generation of men and women who, quite literally, saved the world,” Gilligan says. “If you ever get the opportunity to tour her, jump at it. You’ll come away changed.”
The full list of tour stops is available AirPowerTour.org, where you can also make advance purchases. Show your support of Better Call Saul and this great cause all at the same time — just don’t try to shoot your own TV commercial!
